ADM Competition Results

The ADM business plan competition, held in 2009-2010, had the following results:

  • More than 700 applications received in response to an open call for proposals.
  • 58 finalists and their partners participated in a two-day Marketplace Event in Washington, D.C.
  • 14 winning businesses were awarded matching grants of up to $100,000 each
  • A total of $1.2 million of private equity was leveraged across seven sub-Saharan African countries.

U.S.-Based African Diaspora Entrepreneurs to Spur Job Growth in Their Native Countries

WASHINGTON, D.C. & ENGLEWOOD, Colo., January 13, 2010 – Today in Washington, D.C., at the African Diaspora Marketplace (ADM), entrepreneurs were awarded matching grants to help fund their business plans to spur job growth in their native countries. The ADM is an entrepreneurial business program that seeks to boost economic opportunity in Sub-Saharan Africa through sustainable start-up and established enterprises. ADM winners received grants to match their own funds to support the execution of their business plans.
